Introducing Harbourside Sea School



 

Harbourside Sea School provides training all over the country. Their new operating base is now at Liverpool Marina, alongside side the River Mersey!


They have RIBs and PWC moored on pontoons which makes their training dry and hassle free. The waters of River Mersey offer without doubt, the most challenging environment in Merseyside for our practical powerboat and PWC courses.

 

Our dedicated shore-based training centre offers you the chance to undertake your training in comfort whether you are using the latest marine radio equipment or traditional navigation charts.

 

We use equipment of the highest standard. Our training Rigid Inflatable Boats are fully equipped for working in coastal waters by day or night. Our vessels offer a superior standard of equipment including DSC Vhf radio and GPS Chart Plotters. Our aim is to increase your knowledge for commercial or pleasure purposes by giving you the practical skills and theory knowledge to enhance your confidence and safety whilst afloat.

 

As one of our most popular offerings, they are an accredited RYA training centre. Offering a wide range of courses. If you’re unsure about your level or have questions, simply reach out. Their shore-based courses have been highly regarded by countless students throughout the years, we cover plenty of RYA shore-based courses.

Senior instructor - Ian Costello

 


Ian started out on the water in his childhood years with his family. After spending many years in the armed forces . The water has grown into his passion and vocation that he loves to share with others. 

Ian has a vast experience in the maritime industry in many roles including Pilot Vessel Coxswain, Survey Vessel Master for Peel Ports and fast wind farm vessels.

 




Principal – Alan Thoms



Alan has been a mariner since the age of 17. Working from a deck hand up to officer of the watch in the merchant navy. having moved from oil and gas he now provides marine management to the offshore wind farm renewable sector. Alan also has vast experience operating fast wind farm vessels and tugs.








 

Training Manager – Steve Barrowman


Steve for many years part of Merseyside Fire and Rescue, This included being part of the River Mersey Marine Fire one rescue craft. After retirement Steve continued to work in the maritime industry working with pilot craft and offshore vessels. He is currently a qualified inspector for the RYA.

Shadow Wind is a Royal Yachting Association Accredited Training Centre in Liverpool Marina, offering RYA course in Navigation from beginner up to Yacht Master.

Along with practical sailing adventures from days to weeks at sea on their training yacht, they offer a complete service in sail training or adventure experience for everybody from the complete novice to experienced masters.

Liverpool has a long maritime tradition and the Mersey and the Irish Sea are excellent training grounds which produce confident sailors.


Berth holders at Liverpool Marina can benefit from a 10% discount on all courses, preferential booking, and support from Shadow Wind on anything to do with sailing and going to sea.

With courses starting at £180 and days on the boat from £90, training is available to everybody.


In the next few months we have sailing trips booked to Scotland, Wales, and around the UK, so there is a huge range of adventure to be had.
