General Safety Information
Pontoon Safety
- Locate your nearest emergency access ladder to your berth. These are found at the end of each hammerhead and also at various points along the main walkway
- Locate your nearest SOS Station. These boxes are marked orange and are at the entrance to each pontoon. Each box contains 1 x life ring and 1 x fire extinguisher
- During averse weather conditions take extra care on the pontoons ensuring appropriate footwear is worn
- Salt grit bins are located at the head of each ramp
- Notify Marina office immediately in case of emergency
- Disabled and vulnerable persons are advised to wear life jackets at all times
- Children under the age of 16 are to wear life jackets at all times
- Observe the “dead slow” speed limit set at 5 knots
- It is important to notify Marina personnel of any damage to pontoons immediately to ensure the appropriate action can be taken
- Ensure pontoons are kept clear of trip hazards
- Tenders and dinghies are to be kept on davits or on board your vessel.
Fire Drill
- Raise the alarm by contacting the Marina office. We will call the Fire Brigade if they have not already been called
- Clear the area of any people who may be in danger and in particular, those who are down wind of the fire
- Tackle the fire only if it is safe to do so.
- Leave the area in a orderly manner (do not run).
- In the event of fire gather at the muster point in the main Marina car park
Brunswick Lock Procedures
Locking to and from the River Mersey
- Contact the Lock keeper on approach to Brunswick Lock. (Call sign; Liverpool Marina) – Channel 37 (M)
- Enter the Lock only when it is clear to do so. Under the Lock keepers instruction or when the docking signals shows green.
- Ensure your vessel is tied up securely whilst the levels equalise
- Depart the lock only when clear to do so (when docking signals show green)
- REMEMBER to check the sight boards before arrival / departure ensuring you have enough water over the sill
In the unlikely event of the Lock Keeper not being present outside office hours contact Liverpool Coastguard on 0151 931 3341. They will contact a Lock Keeper to arrange cover.
